Hopefully this will help alot of you to back-up your firmware, install Theme Manager 3.2 or change firmware (Only do this if you need to as firmwares are NOT upgrades)
PLEASE READ ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANYTHING
Important parts are highlighted in RED, follow EXACTLY what it says
**NEW VIDEO TUTORIALS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED**
Ok first things first, you will need to download EFS to do all of the above, find that here and an alternative version here (use this one if your pc flags the first one as a virus)
You can find firmware versions here, here or in the WIKI
You can get TM 3.2 here
Ok now we are going to back-up your firmware first so that if any mistakes are made then you can restore your Viewty back to working order.
Backing up your firmware (Video Tutorial here)- First, on your pc's desktop, create a new folder by right clicking in an empty space and choose new - folder, name this LGAPP or something that you will remember.
- Now open the EFS program, but don't connect your phone yet. You will see a large empty screen with an "explore" button on the top bar, press this.
- A smaller empty box will open in the middle, click cancel on this one.
- You will notice that the screen is now split into 4 sections. In the bottom half is your Pc's files, the top half will show your phones files once we are connected.
- In the bottom left section, find your desktop where you saved the new folder that you named before. Open the desktop folder and then open the newly named folder, the bottom right section should be empty.
- Now, put your phone into "Data mode" by going to Settings-Phone settings-Connectivity-USB connection mode-Data mode. Return to the home screen.
- Now on EFS close the first window so you are back to the empty screen with the explore button at the top. Click "explore" again, the small empty box will reappear.
- Now when you connect your phone you will have about 3 seconds to tick the box that appears in the top left of the small box and then hit connect in the bottom right of the small box. If a warning appears and says something about a port, just disconnect and reconnect your phone.
- Once connected you will see your phones files in the top half of the screen.
- Make sure that the bottom half is still showing the folder you named earlier.
- In the top half, right click LGAPP and click re-name, LGAPP(text) should turn blue. Now type TOTO and click in an empty space until it is no longer blue
- Right click TOTO and choose refresh. This enables you to copy the protected files in your phone
- DO NOT RENAME TO SOMETHING BLANK!!
- Your phone will disconnect itself
- You will get a yellow screen don't panic, just reconnect
- You will notice that a "ghost" LGAPP folder has appeared, ignore it
- Now right click on TOTO and choose "read", after a few seconds your files will start to copy to your pc, this will take about 40 minutes, so sit back, go watch tv or somethin just don't turn off your pc or your phone, in fact, don't touch either.
- Once this has finished you will have a copy of your own firmware backed up. Save this at all costs, put it on a memory stick or somethin.
- In the top left section scroll all the way to the top and click the folder with no name (very top one) you should now see TOTO again in the top right section.
- Right click on TOTO and rename back to LGAPP, then right click and refresh again.
- Now click on "Disconnect" on the middle bar and choose "yes" from the pop-up. Your phone will now reboot. Thats it your done.
Installing Theme Manager (Video Tutorial here)
Now it has occured to me that to install Theme Manager there is no need to rename LGAPP at all as the files you need to replace are not protected, so Once you have a full backup of your firmware then you shouldn't really need to rename LGAPP again.
Ok down to business- Open the EFS program, but don't connect your phone yet. You will see a large empty screen with an "explore" button on the top bar, press this.
- A smaller empty box will open in the middle, click cancel on this one.
- You will notice that the screen is now split into 4 sections. In the bottom half is your Pc's files, the top half will show your phones files once we are connected.
- In the bottom left section you will need to find where you have saved Theme Manager and open so it displays the files in the bottom right section.
For Installing using memory card- You will see 4 files and 1 folder; Themes folder (which we will ignore for now), theme_bg2.swf, widget2.swf, widget4.swf and nyx_viewtyx.swf
- In the top right section, open LGAPP by double clicking
- Then open "Media" and scroll down to "swf" and open this
- The first folder showing should be "theme", open this folder, you will see "theme_bg1,2,3 and 4
- In the bottom right section, right click on "theme_bg2.swf" from TM and click "write", this will copy over
- In the top left section, find the "swf" folder and click, this will take you back a step so you see a list of files starting with the "theme" folder again
- In the bottom right section, one-by-one, right click and "write" the files "widget2.swf", "widget4.swf" and the nyx file, these will also copy over
- Now in the top left section, scroll up to the top and click the very top folder that has no name you should see LGAPP again in the top right box
- Right click in an empty space and click refresh
- Then in the middle bar, click "disconnect" and choose yes from the pop-up, your phone will now restart/reboot
- You can now close EFS, and disconnect your phone from the cable
- Now put your phone into "Mass storage mode" by going to Settings-phone settings-connectivity-USB connection mode-mass storage
- Now open "My Computer" on your pc and you should see "removable disk(?)" for XP, or MMCroot for Vista, don't open this yet
- Now in another window find where you saved Theme Manager, and drag-and-drop the "themes" folder onto "removable disk(?)" or "MMCroot", and you should see the files copy to your memory card
- Once this is finished open the removable disk/MMCroot and right click the new "Themes" folder
- Choose the last option in the popup, should be folder options or properties, you should see a tick box to hide files
- Click this and choose the option to hide folder and all sub-folders
- You should now see that the "Themes" folder is faded
- You can now unplug your phone
- Now, on your Viewty, go to Settings-Phone settings-Screen-Handset theme and choose the silver theme, return to the home screen
- Now double tap the "C" key between the red and green keys and hey presto, theme selector!
For installing as a standalone theme to the phones memory
Basically the only differences to the method above is that when you copy "theme_bg2.swf" into the "theme" folder, you also copy the "themes" folder from TM in the bottom right section into the "theme" folder aswell, instead of the memory card. Once copied, open the Themelist.txt in the "Themes" folder you just added and change the locations from "0" to "1" so that TM knows to look in the phones memory for the themes.
For changing Firmware
- Open the EFS program, but don't connect your phone yet. You will see a large empty screen with an "explore" button on the top bar, press this.
- A smaller empty box will open in the middle, click cancel on this one.
- You will notice that the screen is now split into 4 sections. In the bottom half is your Pc's files, the top half will show your phones files once we are connected.
- You will notice that a "ghost" LGAPP folder has appeared, ignore it
- In the bottom left section you will need to find where you have saved your new firmware and open so it displays the files in the bottom right section.
- In the bottom right section, you should see the folders from your downloaded firmware
- First you will need to make the file "flex.ini" in your new firmware, look exactly like the one in your existing firmware
- This can be found in LGAPP/Media/Flex
- It is basically just changing the country code and your operator code, a list of these are in the "flex.ini" file for you to refer to, an example is below, it shows the flex for Three in the uk;
THREE(GB)
Code:
FLEX_COUNTRY_CODE=234
FLEX_MNC_CODE=10
FLEX_OPERATOR_CODE=1
;FLEX_COUNTRY_CODE 234:GB(UK), 222:IT(Italy), 454:HK(Hong Kong), 240:SE(Sweden), 505:AU(Australia), 232:AT(Austria), 262:DE(Germany),
; 450:KR(Korea LG Lab), 208:FR(France), 214:ES(Spain), 204:NL(The Netherlands), 230:CZ(Czech), 219:HR(Croatia),
; 216:HU(Hungary), 260:PL(Poland), 231:SK(Slovakia), 238:DK(Denmark), 206:BE(Belgium), 602:EG(Egypt),
; 202:GR(Greece), 274:IS(Iceland), 272:IE(Ireland), 278:MT(Malta), 530:NZ(New Zealand), 268:PT(Portugal),
; 226:RO(Romania), 293:SI(Slovenia), 655:ZA(South Africa), 228:CH(Switzerland), 284:BG(Bulgaria)
;
You can of course just replace the flex file with the one from your back-up, this is easier to do.- In the top right section, open TOTO, you will see a set of folders that are named just like the ones in the bottom right section
- In the bottom right section, one-by-one right click and "write" these folders to the phone, BUT DO NOT COPY THE PXO OR MODULE FOLDERS, doing this could disable your camera afterwards.
- Once all these folders have been copied over
- In the top left section scroll all the way to the top and click the folder with no name (very top one) you should now see TOTO again in the top right section.
- Right click on TOTO and rename back to LGAPP, then right click and refresh again.
- Now click on "Disconnect" on the middle bar and choose "yes" from the pop-up. Your phone will now reboot. Thats it your done.
Ok, by following these step by step instructions you shouldn't go wrong
